Overview

Ultra-Processed? is designed without accounts, advertising, developer-operated analytics, or tracking. The developer does not operate a product database or retain a history of the barcodes you scan or the product names you search for.

Camera use

Camera access is used only to recognize EAN and UPC barcodes. Recognition takes place on your iPhone. The app does not upload camera images or video.

Product searches and lookups

When you check a barcode, the exact barcode is sent over HTTPS to Open Food Facts so that the requested product record can be returned. Product images shown in the app are also loaded from Open Food Facts.

When you enter at least three characters of a product name, the search term and preferred app language are sent to the Open Food Facts search service to return product suggestions. Selecting a suggestion triggers an exact-barcode lookup before the result is shown.

The app may also request Open Food Facts ingredient-taxonomy details for a marker you open and category-based product records when it tries to show similar products with a NOVA 1–3 record.

Third-party processing

Open Food Facts receives product-search and lookup requests and network information including your IP address, the requested search term or product path, preferred app language, and the app's user-agent. Under its current privacy policy, visitor IP addresses and request logs may be retained for up to three years for security, technical analysis, and popularity measurement. Open Food Facts controls that processing. Review its privacy information for its current practices.

Storage and sharing

The app does not create an account, save scan history, sell personal information, or share data with advertisers. The developer does not operate a backend or retain search terms, lookup results, or ingredient and alternative requests. Open Food Facts processes its request logs under its own privacy policy as described above.

Data sent to Open Food Facts is used to provide and protect the product-lookup service and, under its privacy policy, may also be used for technical analysis and popularity measurement. It is not used by Ultra-Processed? for advertising or tracking. Any third party receiving data from the app is required to protect it to the same or an equivalent level described in this policy and required by the App Review Guidelines.

Retention, deletion, and your choices

You can enter a barcode manually instead of granting camera access. You can revoke camera access at any time in iOS Settings. To stop future barcode, search-term, and network information from being sent, do not use the product-search or lookup features, or remove the app. Removing the app removes its local app data.

The developer retains no server-side scan, search-term, IP-address, or request data, so there is no developer-held search or lookup history to delete. Open Food Facts controls its own request logs. Requests concerning access to or deletion of those logs must be directed to Open Food Facts through the contact method in its privacy information.
